Journal #5
For this journal, I’ve decided to write a QCQ. The quote I’ve chosen stems from page thirty, where Scarry claims that “our desire for beauty is likely to outlast its object” (Scarry 30).
I like this concept of legacy. Because a concept such as beauty is referred to as timeless, the thought of whatever would represent that beauty could never die out due to humanity’s need for such a stimulus. This could be traced back to the arts, whether it be the fine or performing arts. Though certain works have lived way past the average lifespan of a human being, even considering songs who’s artist passed away long ago, the art itself never dies. This is a signature feature of humanity. The beauty behind the work that people put in is a behavior that defines who we are as individuals.
Could anything be beautiful with the concept of currency behind it?
